Busby Marou |
|
With only a handful of shows under their belt, BusbyMarou are quickly making an impact on the Australian music scene. If you haven’t all ready seen or heard them perform – expect to and soon! The duo have recently supported legendary Australian singer songwriter – Pete Murray, on his most recent Aussie tour. With obvious song writing influences from Crowded House, Thomas has a distinctly Australian way of sharing his stories.
Jeremy, a proud Torres Strait Islander, has rare musical talent. He is fluent on just about every instrument, including ukulele, bass, drums and piano - But it is his natural ability on the guitar that supersedes expectations. Together, the pair has developed a unique alt/country song writing flavour. The chemistry between the duo is what sets them apart from other young performers. Cracking harmonies and a natural feel for each others guitars.

| Pugsley Buzzard plays the piano somewhat like Chico Marx, Thelonious Monk, Professor Longhair, Fats Waller and the Devil. He sings like a grizzlybear and is quite entertaining. These days you can see him solo and with a trio or quartet and occasionally with a big brass band. Pugsley writes his own material but also likes to interpret all sorts of classic material from old parlour songs, show tunes, work songs, blues, jazz, funk, cartoon music, film scores and more. He has composed for film and theatre and ensembles big and small. |

Mojo Webb is making waves in the Australian blues and roots scene. He is a versatile world-class electric and acoustic guitarist, and has a truly amazing voice. Also a multi-instrumentalist, he played every instrument on his all-original debut album The Burden, including harmonica, saxophone, bass and drums. His is a unique talent which is equally at home in traditional blues settings and on pop festival stages. His charisma, naturally engaging stage presence and incendiary performances are making him a firm festival favourite and of course a local legend in his native Brisbane. Make no mistake, Mojo is the real deal and it won’t be long before the whole world knows. |

Nick & Liesl |
|
An enchanting duo. Two unique voices, flowing harmonies and captivating songs seem to bring Nick and Liesl a loving reception wherever they go. Their distinctive sound is the coming together of two singer/songwriters with influences ranging from Nick’s love of Cat Stevens and James Taylor to Liesl’s classical songbooks and the local folk music of her childhood home Sweden. Although only two people, the pair present a sound that fills large theatres and small village churches alike. Their stories are many and varied, as is their performance, with each switching between instruments along to the ever-present stomp box and tambourine.

From the far north of Australia but with his musical roots embedded in the deep south of the USA, Sugarcane Collins is a one of a kind singer-songwriter-guitarist.
Inspired by the slashing delta blues of Charley Patton and Son House, the sparkling ragtime of Blind Blake and the powerful songster traditions of Leadbelly, Sugarcane sings passionately with a voice that is big and soulful, writes songs that are potent and rich with imagery and attacks the guitar with a driving rhythmic swing.
He cut his blues teeth in rough canefield pubs and the dangerous waterfront bars of Cairns’ famed and feared but now gone Barbary Coast and his 25 year performing career in far north Queensland is the stuff of local legend.

| National Folk Festival winner of the 2008 Lis Johnston Award for vocal excellence, Ange Takats' voice has been described as Joan Baez meets Gillian Welch. Her debut album Aniseed Tea tells stories of knitting, longing and lovely Irishmen."Ange Takats has some interesting stories to tell but the hook is that soulful voice she tells them with. There's real grit and passion there" - The Courier Mail |

Tijuana Cartel |
|
If Carlos Santana had been hanging out in Iraq for the last 10 years then he would have to sound something like the Gold Coast’s own Tijuana Cartel. Tijuana Cartel houses Paul George and Carey O'sullivan as co-producers, guitarists and keyboard players. Regan Hoskins as MC & Daniel Gonzalez on latin percussion and a growing list of guests as live feature artists featuring DJ Freddie FlyFingaz, Trumpet Player Shannon Van Horn and Yoav Mashiach on Djembe & Darabukka.

Some people respond to art by challenging and transforming the mainstream culture. Mr.Percival isn't what you expect. There are few artists who live in their instrument. Literally. A single voice, multiplied to an ensemble via the magic of a looping pedal, Mr.Percival creates a world of music and sound. His vocal origami ranges from the tribal sounds of 'Down In Africa' to the dirty, hip-grinding groove of 'Brown Sugar'. Mr.Percival is an engaging, enigmatic performer taking the audience on a vocal journey, exploring and creating musical landscapes. With his edgy wit and his laid back attitude the 'Out Of The Loop' show is unrestrained and fun. Really fun "

HALFWAY hail from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia via the regional towns where kids grow up listening to country music on the family AM radio, hot summers and sweaty legs on vinyl car seats. Combine this with the folk/bluegrass leanings of two Dublin born brothers, and you have halfway.
The band have worked hard over the last couple of years crafting and recording music and honing skills with performances throughout Australia. HALFWAY combine pop sensibilities with the twang and the heart that is modern country rock music, producing a collection of sounds coming from everywhere we all know and love. This culminates in odes to friendship, lost love and damn fine song writing.
Its all there. Lush and restrained pedal steel and banjo beautifully complementing acoustic and electric guitars that counter and punch within a mix of fine melodies and three-part harmonies. This is how country rock should sound.
